PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-blast circuit breaker having excellent energy efficiency and high performance by enhancing breaking performance for driving energy. SOLUTION: A movable contact part 1 and a counter contact part 2 are disposed face to face in an enclosure filled with an arc-extinguishing gas. The movable arc contact 11 and a counter arc contact 21 are disconnected by their relative movement when they are making breaking action. In order to extinguish an arc generated in an arc space between both arc contacts 11, 21, a mechanical compressing chamber 31 and a thermal pressure-raising chamber 32 are formed in the cylinder part 16 of the movable contact part 1, and an inter-chamber opening part 33 is provided in a barrier plate 19 between the chambers. The arc space is connected to the thermal pressure-raising chamber 31 by an upstream side gas passage 41, and the arc space is connected to a downstream space 3 by a downstream side gas passages 42, 43. A floating check valve 51 is provided on the thermal pressure-raising chamber 32 side of the inter-chamber opening part 33, and the check valve 51 is always energized toward the barrier plate 19 side, which is its closing direction, by an elastic body 101.
