POROUS ELECTRODE AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A technology for prolonging the service lives of a porous electrode composed of a sintered mixture of electrode material and ceramic material and a NOx sensor device including the porous electrode. There is provided a porous electrode structured so as to have a peak pore diameter of 0.31 mum or greater and a total pore volume of 0.013 ml/g or greater as measured in accordance with the mercury penetration method. In the production of this porous electrode, first, a composition comprising electrode metal material (50) and ceramic material (52) further having, mixed therein, a vanishable solid material vanished by firing is formed into a thinfilm. Thereafter, the thus formed film is fired so as to obtain a sintered mixture of electrode metal material (50) and ceramic material (52) wherein a multiplicity of pores (54) are provided at vanishing sites of the vanishable solid material.
