PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber provided with a structure to enable to reduce burden of a worker and assembling time in a process of assembling to another member and a method for storing the same. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic shock absorber 1 having high pressure gas filled in a shock absorber main body 4 which a piston rod 5 comes in and out, a flexible retention member 8 is wound between a base end part of the shock absorber main body 4 and a tip part of the piston rod 5 to maintain a relative position thereof under a condition that the piston rod 5 is pushed in the shock absorber main body 4 by a predetermined amount, and end parts of the retention member are mutually fixed.
