PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyester-based artificial hair which maintains the fiber characteristics, such as heat resistance, strength and elongation, of ordinary polyester fibers, and has an excellent setting property, excellent touch and high flame retardancy. SOLUTION: This flame retardant polyester-based artificial hair which maintains the fiber characteristics, such as heat resistance, strength and elongation, of ordinary polyester fibers, and has an excellent setting property, touch and flame retardancy is obtained by melt-spinning a polyester composition which is obtained by melt-kneading a polyester with an organic cyclic phosphorous compound having a specific structure and further contains a phosphite-based compound or at least one compound selected from the group consisting of carbodiimide compounds, bisoxazoline compounds, isocyanate compounds and epoxy compounds.
