PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide low alloy steel for a die for molding a plastic or rubber material in which thermal conductivity is improved, further, its variation is suppressed, and heat radiation performance is increased. SOLUTION: In the low alloy steel, the contents of C, Si, Cr, Mn, Al and N are optimized, the contents of Ni, Mo, W, V, Ti and O are regulated, further, the total content of Mo, W, V and Ti is regulated, and its structure is mainly composed of ferrite and pearlite. Further, in the optional cross-section, the area ratio of martensite and bainite is controlled to≤40%, the area ratio of pro-eutectoid ferrite is controlled to≥30%, and, among the pro-eutectoid ferrite, the area of the one with an area of≥2,000μm<SP>2</SP>and an aspect ratio of≥10 is controlled to≥10%.
