PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producingα-sialon phosphor powder with which deterioration of optical characteristics caused by mixing a part of a pulverization medium in theα-sialon phosphor is surely prevented and cost is further reduced by efficiently finely dividing theα-sialon phosphor. SOLUTION: The method for production is carried out as follows. The pulverization medium 3 is made of a white material or a material having light transmitting properties and≥9 Mohs hardness.
