PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve print quality by reducing jagging due to the oblique travel of a recording paper without using a positioning mechanism. SOLUTION: The thermal head sequentially shifts an endmost heating element corresponding to an endmost picture element 60a of a printed image 60 in a main scanning direction, when a recording paper obliquely runs. Within a period of time when the endmost heating element is changed, namely within a dot width Wh, the density of the endmost picture element is corrected in accordance of the amount of movement of the side edge of the recording paper 11 in the main scanning direction. A controller calculates the oblique running speed of the recording paper 11 by using a CCD line sensor. The controller counts elapsed time during the movement of the side edge within the dot width Wh, estimates the position of the side edge on the basis of the oblique travel speed and corrects the density of the endmost picture element 60a in accordance with the position.
