The invention relates to a machine reamer which comprises a shaft-like base ( 10 ) and a reamer head that axially projects beyond the front of the base and that is configured as a one-piece indexable insert ( 12 ). Said indexable insert can be introduced in a front insert seat ( 14 ) of the base ( 10 ) with an axially projecting, preferably conical shoulder ( 24 ) and can be clamped therein by means of a tension rod ( 44 ) that extends through the center-axis of the base ( 10 ). In order to improve the rotational catch effect between the base ( 10 ) and the idexable insert ( 12 ), the indexable insert ( 12 ) has a central polygonal opening ( 30 ) through which the tension rod engages with a complementary polygonal section ( 32 ).
