The device has first and second guide plates (24,26) engaging on the side of a rail foot, and each with a non-central aperture for a screw bolt (32,34). Tension clamps are fixed to the plates via the bolts. At least one of the plates has a first and second edge (35,36,38,40) for positive guidance of the rail foot or of a spacer element. Turning and/or reversing of the guide plate about an axis, which cuts and/or passes through the screw bolt (z), causes the first or the second edge to guide the rail foot or the spacer.
