<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal ion battery in which a high capacity active material is joined to a current collector at a low cost, and which is superior in charge and discharge cycle characteristics or the like, and which is inexpensive. <P>SOLUTION: This is the electrode for an alkaline metal ion or an alkaline earth metal ion battery in which at least one part of metal and/or alloy contained in a thin film in which the metal and/or an alloy is the main component is substituted by an active material capable of storing and releasing the alkaline metal ions or the alkaline earth group metal ions. Once the thin film in which the metal and/or the alloy is the main component is formed, by substituting at least one part of this by the active material, and by using an inexpensive material and a process, the electrode in which the charge and discharge capacity is high, and which is superior in battery characteristics such as charge and discharge cycles can be provided at a low cost and with a high productivity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
