WAVELENGTH DISPERSION COMPENSATING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength dispersion compensating device capable of compensating the wavelength dispersion and the wavelength dispersion slope of a WDM beam which are accumulated by being propagated through the optical fiber over a wide wavelength band. SOLUTION: The wavelength dispersion compensating device is equipped with; a VIPA board 10 which can output incident light to different angles according to wavelengths; a dispersion variable diffraction grating 20 which can angularly disperse beams of each wavelength which are outputted from the VIPA board 10 to a direction which is actually vertical to an angular dispersion direction in the VIPA board 10 and also can change the angular dispersion quantity; a beam returning device 39 which converges output beams from the dispersion variable diffraction grating 20 by a lens 31 and which reflects them on a mirror 32 and returns them to the board 10; and a stage rotating mechanism M2 which rotates a movable stage 33 on which the lens 31 and the mirror 32 are mounted according to the diffraction angle of the grating 20 and the device is made so as to be able to change wavelength dispersion and wavelength dispersion slope which are to be given to the WDM beam independently.
