PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for further excellently refining properties of excavation sediment generated by a mud pressure shield construction method. SOLUTION: A mud type shield construction method excavates a cutting face surface while mixing and agitating with the excavation sediment by sending out a plastic fluidizing additive being a water soluble high molecular compound to a cutting face in front of a shield machine. The excavation sediment refining method reduces a slump value of the excavation sediment by setting the pH of the excavation sediment to 8.2 or more by adding a hydrogen ion concentration conditioner to the excavation sediment in the middle of carrying out the excavation sediment generated by excavation. The plastic fluidizing additive is added in a range of 10 capacity part to 35 capacity part to 100 capacity part of the excavation sediment.
