PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize the recording capacity of a DVD-R and a DVD-RW by eliminating useless operations in a recording method for performing a selection request as to whether to perform finalizing processing of a disk inserted into a DVD-R or DVD-RW recording device. SOLUTION: In the DVD-R or DVD-RW recording device, a user information inputting-outputting means including a recording means for recording these disks and a displaying means is provided, a central processing means for processing an input from the user and record information of an inserted disk is provided, reference for performing finalizing processing selection and display is inputted and set, the presence/absence of finalizing record of the inserted disk and remaining capacity are detected, whether to coincide with the reference is judged to perform display, and finalizing processing is performed as needed to extract the disk.
