PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time required to eject a first sheet, on which a monochromatic image is formed, in an image forming apparatus which is capable of forming a color image. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus which is capable of forming a color image, a toner image formed by a plurality of image forming units arranged in tandem is transferred and fixed to a paper through an intermediate transfer body when a color image is formed. When a monochromatic image is formed, the intermediate transfer body is rotated in a reverse direction with respect to the case of forming a color image and the toner image formed by the image forming unit for a black image arranged at the most downstream section of the intermediate transfer body rotational direction is transferred and fixed to a paper.
