PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device whose optical modulation element is efficiently cooled by cooling fluid and which is miniaturized even when the optical modulation element is constituted of a plurality of elements, and to provide a projector. SOLUTION: The optical device 44 is equipped with three optical modulation elements, three optical modulation element holding bodies 447, a plurality of fluid circulating members 440, a cross dichroic prism 444, a fluid branching part 446, a fluid feeding part 449 and a fluid forcibly feeding part 445. The three holding bodies 447 are attached to three luminous flux incident side end faces of the prism 444 through the three members 448. The fluid feeding part 449 is attached to the upper surface of the prism 444.
