PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for biochips for adhering and retaining a very small amount of living body-related substance to a minute region, and especially to provide a substrate for biochips that can retain a very small amount of liquid at a plurality of locations on a substrate with high density, reduces variations in the amount, and has selective adhesion properties having improved repetitive reproducibility. SOLUTION: A recess 20 arranged in a prescribed rule is formed on the surface of a flat substrate 10. The surface of the recess is covered with a metal film 40, and a linker for immobilizing the living body-related substance via a compound having affinity with the metal is introduced onto the surface.
