Drain tube (10) for colonic irrigation including a rigid body (12) having a tubular portion (14) and a side tube (16) extending from the tubular portion (14). The tubular portion (14) has a proximal end (18) adapted to be inserted into a bowel and a distal end (20) through which an irrigation tube is inserted. A circumferential sewing ring (44) is arranged on the tubular portion (14) for securing the body (12) within an open end of a severed bowel, the bowel being operatively attached thereto. A bowel sheath (36) is provided having a rolled portion adapted to be unrolled over and to cover an area of attachment of the bowel to the body (12). The bowel sheath (36) and sewing ring (44) may be integral with one another. Additional improvements to a drain tube and method for using the same are also disclosed. |
