The system has a steering rack, a coaxial piston rod, a drive pinion, and devices to connect track rods to steering rack and piston rod. The steering rack (14) has a diameter, which is larger than that of the piston rod (16), so that the root diameter of the steering rack toothing (14a) is mainly the same as, or larger than the diameter of the piston rod. The toothing is formed directly next to the piston rod. The stepped transition between rack and rod and a bearing wall (12a) of the system housing (12), define an inner steering stop. The rack toothing is formed by a segment, which is connected to the rack esp. by Laser welding.
