PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheath type glow plug enabling the suppression of occurrence of weld burrs and the provision of stable weld strength and capable of preventing an electrical shortage between the middle shafts and the main fittings of a sheath type glow plug, and a method of manufacturing the sheath type glow plug. SOLUTION: This sheath type glow plug is manufactured by holding the tip side middle shaft 41 and the rear end side middle shaft 42 by an unshown tool in the abutted state thereof in an axial direction after the assembly of an electric heating body is completed in assembling and radiating a laser beam to all the periphery of an abutted part between the tip side middle shaft 41 and the rear end side middle shaft 42 by a YAG laser while rotating the tip side middle shaft 41 and the rear end side middle shaft 42. Thus, the joining of the tip side middle shaft 41 to the rear end side middle shaft 42 is completed, the weld burrs less occur, the stable weld strength can be provided, and the middle shafts can be prevented from being eccentrically positioned.
