METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING FOAM GLASS, FOAM GLASS, AND ADDITIVE FOR MANUFACTURE OF FOAM GLASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing foam glass by which foam glass as a recycled product more suitable from the viewpoint of environmental preservation can be manufactured, and to provide foam glass and an additive for the manufacture of foam glass. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing foam glass by finely pulverizing glass cullet consisting mainly of waste glass and then calcining the glass cullet, silicon carbide of 0.05 to 5.0 wt.% and iron of 0.1 to 5.0 wt.% with respect to the finely pulverized glass cullet are added for calcining the glass cullet. Although a temperature as high as≥1,000°C is required in the case of only silicon carbide, the glass material can foam at a temperature as low as 780 to 850°C as iron functions as a catalyst. As the above foaming agent containing iron and silicon carbide, polish sludge discharged from an automobile foundry can be used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
