<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, capable of preventing discharges from occurring between a foreign substance and a body electrical contact provided in an apparatus body, when a charged foreign substance enters the apparatus on which a process cartridge is not mounted, and to provide a process cartridge and a discharge-preventing mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 is provided with a discharge preventing member 146 for preventing discharge to the electrical contacts 161a, 163a and 164a of the image forming apparatus body A electrically connected to the electrical contacts 160a, 188a and 189a of the process cartridge B. When the charged foreign substance enters the body A on which the process cartridge B is not mounted, the member 146 can move between a first position for effecting the discharge between the member 46 and the foreign substance and a second position retracted from the first position.
