PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leader tape nearly free from increase of drop-out associated with reflection of a drive reel and a leader block part due to long time preservation or high temperature running and to provide a magnetic tape cartridge using the same. SOLUTION: (1) The leader tape has 10 to 60 nm center line average surface roughness (Ra) on at least one surface thereof,≤20 ppm/°C temperature expansion coefficient in lateral and longitudinal directions and≤20 ppm/%RH humidity expansion coefficient in lateral and longitudinal directions. (2) The leader tape mentioned in (1) is used as a leader tape joined to the tip part of a magnetic tape and leading the magnetic tape to be pulled out in a magnetic recording and reproducing device, in the magnetic tape cartridge wherein a single or a plurality of reels on which the magnetic tapes are wound are rotatably housed in a cartridge case.
