PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device which removes charge acceleration conductive particles to which a discharge product of a nip portion is deposited, before the charge acceleration conductive particles with the the discharge product deposited thereto cause filming, and to provide a charged member for improving the life time of components, a process cartridge, and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The charging device is provided with a mode for periodically cleaning the charge acceleration conductive particles carried in the nip section between a charging member 12c and an image carrier 11. When the cleaning mode starts, the charging member 12c is grounded, and the bias of a developing device 13 is supplied to the image carrier 11.
