PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a theft monitoring device that operates with low power consumption, is simple in the structure of a power part and dispenses with continuous visual monitoring. SOLUTION: The theft monitoring device 1, which comprises an infrared sensor 21 for radiating infrared rays and detecting reflected light of the infrared rays to detect whether there is a suspicious object, transmitting means 23 for transmitting a detection signal from the infrared sensor 21, and alarm generating means 3 for raising an alarm when receiving the detection signal from the transmitting means 23, is provided with controlling means 24 for intermitting the infrared radiation from the infrared sensor 21 and irregularly controlling the intervals between the infrared radiation times or radiationless times. The controlling means 24 can irregularly control the intervals between the infrared radiation times or radiationless times while maintaining a constant ratio of the infrared radiation time of the infrared sensor 21 to the radiationless time in a predetermined period.
