PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic substance treatment method capable of performing the treatment of an organic substance by electrochemical reaction efficiently and continuously at a low cost, and an organic substance treatment apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: An organic solvent (e.g., methanol), in which the organic substance (e.g., biphenyl) to be treated is dissolved, is injected in an electrolytic cell 2 and the circular windows 2a and 2b of the electrlytic cell 2 are sealed by an anode 3 comprising a conductive diamond electrode and a cathode 4 comprising a platinum plate so as to prevent the leak of a solution. A Luggin capillary 6 is vertically inserted in the center of the electrolytic cell 2 and a reference electrode 7 made of silver is inserted therein. The anode 3, the cathode 4 and the reference electrode 7 are connected to a potentiostat 11 to be controlled in potential. If the organic solvent is used, the solubility of the organic substance is enhanced not only to improve efficiency but also to make it hard to bond the polymer of the organic substance produced by electrochemical reaction to the anode.
