The invention can be incorporated into a media content system or can operate in cooperation with the same. The bonus points are accumulated and maintained in an account that is associated with a subscriber. The subscriber can be presented with a catalog of benefits that can be purchased, at least in part, by applying the accumulated bonus points. Thus, media content is augmented by the inclusion of challenges, and viewers are awarded for viewing the content to receive the challenges and then responding to the challenges.
