The system has a sensor for detecting utilization of a fuel, and a control unit processes a signal conveyed from the sensor for identifying an optimal driving mode of a motor vehicle. A display unit with a highlighting pointer is included in an instrument e.g. speedometer or tachometer, that usually exists in the motor vehicle, where the highlighting behavior of pointer indicates the driving mode to a driver of the motor vehicle.
