<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which does not undergo a degradation in the detecting precision of a recording material due to adhesion of paper chips adhering to a reflection-type sensor. <P>SOLUTION: The recording device is formed of a recording head, a platen, the reflection-type sensor, and a suction portion. The recording head reciprocatively moves on the recording material to carry out recording on the recording material. The platen is opposed to the recording head and supports the recording material. The reflection-type sensor is opposed to the platen, and emits light to the platen during reciprocative movement together with the recording head, thereby detecting the presence/absence of the recording medium, based on the intensity of reflected light. The suction portion has an opening that is opposed to the reflection-type sensor when the recording head reaches a predetermined location, and sucks air from the opening in order to remove paper chips adhering to the reflection-type sensor when the reflection-type sensor is in the opposed position to the opening. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
