<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized optical control element having a group speed delay effect and a dispersion control effect, which is capable of giving a controllable light propagation mode while keeping a group speed delay effect of a coupled defect waveguide. <P>SOLUTION: The size of photonic crystals 13a of a plurality of photonic crystal arrays around a defect 15 of a coupled defect structure is made different from that of photonic crystals 13 of the other photonic crystal arrays 14 constituting an entire element 1, and anisotropy is given to the part of the defect 15, so that the element 1 can demonstrate great dispersion control effect and group speed delay effect. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
