POLARIZATION REVERSAL FORMING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization reversal forming method for precise polarization reversal of a substrate in a region including a portion of a projection part while a ferroelectric substrate has an uneven structure such as a ridge on its surface.

SOLUTION: The ferroelectric substrate 1 and the polarization reversal forming method of forming the uneven structure (ridge 32) on the substrate surface and then polarizing and reversing the substrate in the region including the portion of the projection part are characterized in that a recessed part 60 is formed on the back surface of the substrate in the region where at least the projection part is formed in a region to be polarized and reversed and an electric field for polarization reversal is applied to the substrate. Preferably, the recessed part on the back surface of the substrate is deeper than the uneven structure on the substrate surface. Further, the recessed part on the substrate back surface is wider than the projection part on the substrate surface in the region where the recessed part is formed on the substrate back surface.
