PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system capable of easily setting scan information from both of a personal computer side and a digital compound machine side and being simply operated. SOLUTION: Personal computers PC1a to PC1c are connected through a network 100 to digital compound machines 2a and 2b. The PC1a to PC1c and the digital compound machines 2a and 2b are respectively stored with image reading setting contents, the names of applications which execute image reading and item names set according to them. Those scan information is made common in all devices connected to a network. When an image reading operation is performed by any device, the scan information is updated and stored by the image reading operation, and transmitted to all the devices. Then, the scan information is also updated and stored by the other devices based on the transmitted scan information.
