PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder capable of accurately adjusting a relative position between sheets accumulated and placed on the sheet feeder and an image forming device body at a reference position, and cushioning shock at the time of inserting a sheet feeder cassette into a sheet feeder cassette accommodating portion. SOLUTION: When the sheet feeder cassette 7 is accommodated in the sheet feeder cassette accommodating portion 30, a rear wall 625 for a sheet placing portion 62 of the sheet feeder cassette 7 is brought into contact with elastic members 81a, 81b provided at a rear frame 31 of the sheet feeder cassette accommodating portion 30, and the shock affecting the sheet placing portion 62 at the time of inserting the sheet feeder cassette 7 is cushioned by elastic force of the elastic members 81a, 81b and by contraction/expansion of coils springs 73a, 73b provided on a front side. A motor 771 of driving mechanisms 71a, 71b is rotated in a direction reverse to the above direction to move the contact members 72a, 72b to a front portion of the device through a deceleration mechanism 712 and a ball screw 713. The movement of the contact members 72a, 72b moves the sheet placing portion 62 frontward against spring force of the contact members 72a, 72b, thus adjusting the relative position of the sheet placing portion 62 to the image forming portion.
