PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb filter in which the end of a flow passage of a honeycomb structure is sealed and a heat insulating space is formed so that the combustion heat can be restrained from radiating toward a metal-made housing vessel when the honeycomb filter is regenerated, to prepare a sealing film with which the heat insulating space can be uniformly formed when both ends of the flow passage near the outer peripheral wall are sealed with a sealing material and the time to form a through-hole at a sealing position can be shortened, and to provide a method for manufacturing the honeycomb filter by using the sealing film. SOLUTION: The sealing film to be used for manufacturing the honeycomb filter in which the end of the flow passage of the honeycomb structure is sealed is obtained by sticking a tacky adhesive film having the size smaller than the external form at the end of the honeycomb structure to exfoliative paper at least a part of whose peripheral size is made almost coincident with the outer peripheral size of the end of the flow passage.
