NONLINEAR OPTICAL CRYSTAL, ITS PRODUCING METHOD AND WAVELENGTH CONVERSION ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new ferroelectric nonlinear optical crystal capable of generating coherent light having a wavelength of 200 nm or less and to provide a wavelength conversion element using the crystal.

SOLUTION: A strontium-aluminum fluoride single crystal (SrAlF5) is produced by a Czochralski method where the molar ratio of aluminum fluoride to strontium fluoride in a raw material packed in a crucible is 1.03 or more and 1.60 or less. A polarization inversion structure with a specified period is formed in the produced strontium-aluminum fluoride single crystal. The single crystal is the wavelength conversion element using pseudo-phase matching.
