PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition giving a liquid crystal element having high display performance. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains at least one kind of compound expressed by general formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>7</SP>are each hydrogen atom or a substituent provided that at least one of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>is an alkyl, an aryl or a heteroaryl; S is sulfur atom; B<SP>1</SP>and B<SP>2</SP>are each a bivalent aryl, heteroaryl or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group; Q<SP>1</SP>is a bivalent linking group; C<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an alkoxyl, an alkoxycarbonyl or an acyloxyl group; p, q and r are each 0-5; and n is 1-3).
