PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging device and a color shading compensation method which compensate color shading which occurs by that an incident light passes through a color filter which is equipped with an imaging element, and divides a light into a plurality of color components. SOLUTION: In a 2nd linear matrix compensation part 50 of the solid state imaging device 10, color shading compensation is made by subtracting a value multiplied a predetermined matrix factor to outputs of green pixels neighboring to one side of red pixels from outputs of red pixels, and subtracting a value multiplied a predetermined matrix factor to outputs of green pixels neighboring to blue pixels from outputs of blue pixels. At this time, optimal color shading compensation is performed for each pixel of a picture by making the predetermined matrix factor as coefficients which can be freely set in each pixel position.
