LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING TRIFLUORONAPHTHALENE DERIVATIVE AND DISPLAY ELEMENT AND COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition and a display element having permittivity anisotropy which is negative and the absolute value thereof is large, and to provide a compound having permittivity anisotropy which is negative and the absolute value thereof is large. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises a trifluoronaphthalene derivative represented by general formula (1). The display element is prepared by using the liquid crystal composition. Another trifluoronaphthalene derivative is represented by general formula (9). Since the liquid crystal composition has a large absolute value of permittivity anisotropy, it is useful as a component in liquid crystal display elements including that for VA.
