PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily and surely detecting a blank at an end of a recording material to adjust it in an image forming apparatus comprising a plurality of recording heads for forming a full-color image by recording a plurality of different colors in a main scanning direction by each one line on a recording material conveyed in a sub-scanning direction, an end detection means for detecting an end of the recording material in the main scanning direction, and a control means for controlling the driving of the recording heads based on the detected result of the end detection means. SOLUTION: An end blank adjustment device 60 comprises a scanner 61 that has a width of several dots in the sub-scanning direction, captures a test print 64 formed by arranging strip patterns 71 each having a blank 70 with a prescribed width in the main scanning direction and forms image data according to the captured image signal, a data analyzing section 62 that analyzes the image data to detect a monochromatic part not having a mixed color in the sub-scanning direction in the patterns 71 by each color and determines the position of the monochromatic part in the sub-scanning direction to obtain a width of the blank 70 at the determined position, and a data correction section 63 that corrects a driving position of a heating element or the detected results of the end detection means 38-40 so as to achieve a relationship between the heating element and the detection means 38-40 from the compared result between the width of the obtained blank 70 and the width of the blank prescribed when printing the test print 64.
