<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing tetrachloroethylene which can be carried out on a relatively large scale, in purifying soil, underground water, or the like, contaminated with tetrachloroethylene, and to provide a dechlorinating microorganism usable in this method. <P>SOLUTION: The method for decomposing the tetrachloroethylene (PCE) comprises the step of adding the dechlorinating microorganisms to soil or water contaminated with at least PCE and dechlorinating PCE under slightly aerobic conditions.
