PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of the start of scan detection. SOLUTION: In a laser scanning system utilizing a scanning reflector, the light path of a laser beam directed to a scan start detector(124) includes at least two impingement on the scanning reflector(24) of the scanning system and a velocity at which the laser beam passes over the scan start detector(124) is calculated by multiplying the number of times the laser beam impinges on the reflector by the rate of angular motion of the reflector and also the light path of a scan start beam is constituted so as to pass a plurality of times over the reflector.
