PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device capable of being effectively used for a surface light source including a full color display, a back light, a lighting source and the like and a light source array including a printer and the like, excellent in durability and having high luminous efficiency and luminance. SOLUTION: The light emitting device has an organic compound layer including at least one luminous layer between a pair of electrodes. The luminous layer includes a host material and a phosphorescence luminous material. The host material is a 5-coordinate metal complex.
