PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device capable of highly controlling the composition of a cathode containing a plurality of constituting elements, providing efficient charge transport ability, and facilitating manufacture. SOLUTION: An EL display device interposes a light emitting layer 60 between a pixel electrode and the cathode, the cathode 50 has a laminated metal film 51 formed by alternately laminating a first metallic layer 61 containing low work function metal and a second metallic layer 62 containing high work function metal having a work function higher than the low work function metal.
