PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head cleaning method of a liquid jetting apparatus which prevents clogging of nozzles by changing a discharge amount from the nozzles in accordance with characteristics of a liquid to be discharged, and at the same time which suppresses a consumption amount of the liquid, and to provide a liquid jetting apparatus. SOLUTION: A printer is equipped with a cap means 12 which seals a nozzle opening face 8a of a recording head 8 and makes ink discharged from the nozzles of the recording head 8 by suction of a tube pump 31. The cap means 12 has a first and a second box parts 25 and 26 connected to the tube pump 31. A first and a second tubes 14 and 15 are connected to the first and second box parts 25 and 26, respectively. An inner diameter of the first tube 14 is made larger than an inner diameter of the second tube 15. At the time of driving the tube pump 31 while the nozzle opening face 8a is sealed by the first and second box parts 25 and 26, the discharge amount per unit time discharged from the nozzles which belong to the first box part 25 is larger than the discharge amount of the nozzles which belong to the second box part 26.
