PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyester conjugate fiber having good stretchability, good in process passableness in undergoing higher-order processing and giving high-grade woven/knitted fabrics, and excellent in operational stability and quality stability, and to provide a method for producing the polyester conjugate fiber. SOLUTION: The polyester conjugate fiber is such that constituent polymers differing in viscosity from each other are joined each other in a side-by-side manner, wherein at least the higher-viscosity constituent polymer consists of a polytrimethylene terephthalate≥80 mol% recurring units of which are trimethylene terephthalate units and the single filament fineness CV% is≤7%.
