A self-aligning spherical roller bearing, wherein the flange (9) of a retainer (4) is further increased in its maximum diameter. A projected part (20) for each barrel shaped roller with large area is formed on one side surface of the flange (9) increased in diameter so as to be extended in the circumferential direction. The projected part (20) with large area is so formed that its tip face is positioned close to or in slidable contact with the head part side of its one barrel shaped roller (3). Since the flange (9) of the retainer (4) comprises the projected part (20) with large area on the head part side of the barrel shaped roller (3), the portions thereof in slidable contact or in contact with the head part of the barrel shaped roller (3) are increased, and the attitude of the barrel shaped roller (3) can be more stably controlled when the barrel shaped roller (3) is skewed. |
