PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the shortcomings of a conventional WTS (water treatment system) unit using a lamp assembly and a filter assembly, relating to the method for sensing UV light intensity and a point-of-use water treatment system. SOLUTION: A point-of-use water treatment system 20 comprises a base unit 22 including a light intensity sensor 682, a lamp assembly 24 including an outer housing 86, a bulb assembly 82 and a light pipe 252 disposed at least partially in the housing, the bulb assembly including an axis and emitting UV and visible light when the bulb assembly is energized, the light pipe containing a fluorescent dye which converts the UV light to visible light, the light pipe including a plurality of contiguous internal facets angled relatively to one another and focusing the visible light on the light intensity sensor, wherein the light intensity sensor detects the visible light emitted from the light pipe to determine the relative intensity of the UV light produced by the bulb assembly.
