PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of highly accurately performing shading by reducing illuminance unevenness due to an extinction member in inserting an extinction member into an optical path to perform shading correction of a light source. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with an LED light source device disposed on one side of a carrying surface on which a negative film is carried to read frame images formed on the negative film, a CCD line sensor 7 disposed on the other side of the carrying surface and reading transmitting light images of the film, and an ND filter 80 disposed so as to be inserted/removed for the image reading optical path and inserted into the optical path at the time of adjusting the optical path. In the apparatus, the optical transmission surface of this filter 80 is set in an inclined state of forming an angle of 5-10°, preferably, 6°on the carrying surface.
