PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately interpolate abnormal portions in read data obtained by reading a reference member and reduce the influence of dust or stains, etc. adhered to the reference member from the read data. SOLUTION: The difference between 100% shading data obtained by reading a white reference tape 64, using a line sensor 54 with the irradiation light intensity of an LED 52 set to 100% and 50% shading data obtained by reading the white reference tape 64, using the line sensor 54 with the irradiation light intensity of the LED 52 set to 50% is taken to decide portions (pixels) where the difference is lower than a predetermined threshold to be dust-adhered portions (pixels). Data of the dust-adhered portions in the 100% shading data are interpolated, using initial shading data previously acquired and stored in an FROM at the factory shipping.
