PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "a broadcast receiver and a channel scanning method" whereby video and audio denoting broadcast contents of each channel outputted by channel scanning cannot be brought into a commercial message but into a program main text to the utmost. SOLUTION: When a channel being a scanning destination is broadcasting a CM, the channel is skipped and the channel is later again scanned, and when the channel of the scanning destination is broadcasting the program main text, the video and audio data of the channel are outputted. Thus, even when the scanned channel is broadcasting a CM, the scanning is automatically applied to the channel again so as to eliminate the need for a user to make troublesome operations and to bring the broadcast contents of each channel outputted by the channel scanning into the program main text with high possibility thereby allowing the user to be able to intuitionally discriminate the broadcast contents of each channel.
