A buoyant system for restoring aquatic vegetation on an open body of water (W) is described. The buoyant system is preferably equipped with flotation apparatus (14) and a matrix (16) sized and configured to support the vegetation, with the matrix (16) being connected to the flotation apparatus (14). Also included is water-contacting means (18) for raising and lowering the matrix relative to the surface of the water (W) when the system is in use, so that at least a portion of a root region of the vegetation is brought into and out of contact with the water, on a periodic and repetitive basis, during use of the system. |
